What the gurus are saying

The gurus split on how well this tackles stubborn pigmentation. Those with sensitive skin or newer dark spots find it a gentle, hydrating niacinamide option that calms irritation and leaves skin with a subtle glow, making it work well under makeup. However, anyone with melasma or deep hyperpigmentation may find the brightening effect too modest on its own, the niacinamide concentration is mild by design, which means it won't pack the punch of stronger actives. The texture sits smoothly on skin without stickiness, so it pairs well with other treatments for those who want to layer.

"Axis Y is known for their dark spot correcting serum which has niacinamide and ceramides, panthenol, which feels very soothing on the skin. So if you are somebody struggling with dark spots where you feel whatever you use on the skin irritates the skin, then this brand might be worth looking into. They have serums, creams and moisturizers which work really well specifically for dark spots."

"It's labeled as a serum but comes in a tube with a gel cream texture, no scent, and it melts easily onto the skin without stickiness. The key ingredients are 5% niacinamide to even out skin tone and squalane for hydration, but I cannot see any effect, it's hydrating for only a few minutes and then disappears. Since it's already a gel cream, layering a moisturizer on top feels burdensome. Final rating, C."

I tried VIRAL TIKTOK KOREAN SKINCARE products… a brutal and honest review(Not Sponsored)
"This one is also really popular outside of Korea and on TikTok. It was pretty good, better than I expected, not amazing, not really bad. It says it's a Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum, but I think they should erase that claim, I don't see the dark spots fading at all. They put in 5% niacinamide, which is supposed to make your skin overall brighter, but I didn't feel that way. The glow though, I totally agree with, whenever I apply it, it absorbs pretty quickly. I had my husband test it and he said it was okay because it's not sticky, it makes your overall skin condition pretty good. The manual says you can use it thicker as a sleeping mask, so I tried that and it worked well. If you have oily or combo skin you can use it on its own, and if you have dry skin I think it still works pretty good."

"I do like the Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum a bit more, the packaging is a pump which is what I prefer to a jar, especially since it's a more runny product. I honestly do think this is a great niacinamide serum, it features 5% niacinamide and sea buckthorn extract, one of my favorite ingredients, and since it's a leave-on product you're probably going to see more from these ingredients. I do think the 5% niacinamide level could help with post-inflammatory marks from acne, though probably not with age spots. It's a nice niacinamide serum, that's primarily what this is going to give you, and it's going to be hard to beat the price of this too. It's a little lower on my list, but it is one that I would consider repurchasing."

New Korean Skincare (pt 2): Beauty of Joseon came THROUGH (!), the Overhyped, & More!
"Their dark spot serum is one of their best sellers. It is a 5% niacinamide product, and I think 5% niacinamide is a great level, it's better for evening your skin tone, not really fighting dark spots in the sense of brown spots on your skin, maybe this is some kind of translational confusion since what I think this might help with is more of a red or pink spot. Ultimately I do like the dark spot serum, I just don't like its name."

"This is made with five percent niacinamide, and I love knowing the disclosure on the percentage of the active, since five percent is where we start to see melanin inhibiting properties in the published research. It also has papaya, which contains enzyme, emollient and antioxidant ingredients, and some rice bran, which they say works in conjunction with the niacinamide. Anyway I did like this product, though do note it has some rosemary essential oil in it. It works for a lot of people, but I have seen some people say they were a little disappointed that it didn't do more, and if that's the case you might want to look into stronger actives for hyperpigmentation. I'd say this is yet another gentle K beauty serum, targeting hyperpigmentation a bit more than the Beauty of Joseon glow serum."

"This is a product that whether it will work on intense dark spots or not is questionable but this is a product that is a gentle 5% niacinamide which is ideal if your skin is kind of sensitive"

"This one I was disappointed. I didn't find the ingredient list to be super loaded with brightening ingredients. I think the main ingredient might have been niacinamide, and that was really about it. I didn't find much benefit from it at all, so it was a disappointment. A lot of people love it, but if you have newer hyperpigmentation that's not stubborn, it might do the trick. For me, no, that was a loser."

"This is the AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum. [...] It's basically a Niacinamide serum in this kind of more moisturizing, Squalane-based kind of serum. I usually find Niacinamide serums are either just very watery or a little bit sticky, but this one has that more kind of thicker gel cream kind of feeling to it. I [...] love this one so, so much."

"This is from a brand called AXIS-Y, and this is the Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum. This has been a cult favorite for some time now. It fades dark spots and hyperpigmentation, and I've done a little bit of snooping myself, and this product has incredible reviews. Serums like this that are really kind of lightweight and just that gel kind of texture sit incredibly well underneath makeup, because they get that kind of plump the skin, very, very slightly tacky texture to them, which makes for a great priming solution or alternative to a primer. Also leaves the skin with a really healthy glow. I don't look oily, I don't look greasy, I just look like I have glowing skin."

"One last one I want to recommend is from AXIS-Y, their Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum. This serum contains niacinamide along with tranexamic acid. It's also hydrating, as well as six different plant-derived ingredients that are helpful for brightening and evening out skin texture, including rice, which is a very popular ingredient in Asia. Rice has brightening benefits, it's actually able to inhibit the tyrosinase enzyme, which is one of the first steps in creating pigment, but it does not cause a lot of irritation. So for individuals who have a hard time tolerating the traditional brightening ingredients, which tend to be irritating, this one would be a great one to use. Texture-wise, it is a thicker, slightly milky serum, very hydrating, not heavy, sticky, or tacky, so great to use twice daily as tolerated."
