What the gurus are saying

This rich, occlusive moisturizer earns praise for working alongside retinoids and tretinoin, especially in winter. The barrier-repair actives (notably sunflower seed extract) justify the heaviness rather than just sitting on top. Despite its substantial feel and non-greasy application, it may be too rich for very oily skin, though it balances hydration and acne prevention well for dry-to-combination types.

"I go in with the Dr. Sam's Flawless Moisturizer Intense, which is quite rich again, quite hydrating, not greasy, but something that I feel like forms a protective layer. I use my moisturizer before my Tretinoin, which is called buffering, because that again reduces irritation. It does claim to boost NAD+, but I don't use it for that."

Dr Sam’s Moisturiser Intense Review: Does NAD+ Skincare Work? | Doctor Anne
"I enjoyed the Dr. Sam's Flawless Moisturizer Intense a lot. It was very good at keeping my skin calm and happy through a quite cold winter with regular tretinoin use. While it might not be the one that makes me excited about grabbing it, it is one that I was grateful for during winter on tretinoin. I'm not sure about the NAD+ boosting claims as I did not find anything outside the brand and manufacturer's website that supports the use of sunflower shoot extract for that. But it is one that I can recommend, especially if your skin gets irritated easily, you use strong actives like exfoliants or retinoids, and want something that just works. It is probably not the one that I would recommend if you want your moisturizer to do the main work in your anti-aging skincare routine, or if you can't stand the feeling of a product sitting on your skin."
New In Q1 2026 - Abib, Dr Sam's and Geek and Gorgeous | Doctor Anne
"The one that I have already tried and didn't know before is the Dr. Sam's Flawless Moisturizer Intense. I tried the regular version, I guess, the one without the intense, which was a very nice plain moisturizer. This one is rather rich and it feels firm, but again, not greasy. I enjoyed it using in nights before tretinoin because it is really calming and it feels like it protects the skin. Great for me for the colder months. [...] The Dr. Sam's Moisturizer claims to be NAD+ rich."

"For me, Moisturizer Intense is the perfect moisturizer for in the air. I might have formulated it specifically with the dry air of air travel in mind, because of the array of occlusive, barrier building ingredients and future proofing ingredients as well, so it really helps oppose all the stress that goes on in the air cabin."

Testing Viral Skin Barrier Repair Creams For Any Budget
"If you want something that's suitable for use day and night, that works well under makeup but is equally powerful enough to support your nighttime retinoid use, then Flawless Moisturizer Intense is what I'd plump for. It's £32 for 50 mls and I think of it as being a really full service barrier repair cream. You have the elegance of occlusive ingredients, squalane and glycerin, to have that nice base for hydration, but you also have the power of sunflower seed extract as the first barrier repair cream to contain this ingredient, to help power up your skin's battery and enable it to heal itself more rapidly and effectively. Plus you have madecassoside in there, that Korean skincare element, those lovely antioxidant, anti-inflammatory powers, ceramides, squalane, the list is long, but essentially it's really effective and it's also going to work with your existing skincare routine. I think this is brilliant for anybody who's using retinoids, especially as we head into winter, or is just thinking about starting their retinoid journey. I think it's suitable for use with most skin types except those who've got very oily skin, who might just find it a little bit too dewy, but for everyone else I think it's going to work really well, especially in cold weather, and [...] despite being quite substantial it won't block pores, so it's really safe for those with acne. I think it takes a lot of boxes."

"If you have very dry, prone skin, you might want to reach for this, the Dr Sam's Flawless Moisturizer Intense. This really packs a punch for hydration. If this is you, this could be an absolute savior. One of the key benefits is it prevents transepidermal water loss and boosts the moisture levels in the skin. If you've got lower moisture levels to start with, you need something a little bit more to boost that up, and this is where this product comes in. It's not as cheap, but I think it serves a purpose for those of us that have super dry skin that need just a little extra. This works so well, it's rich, it's emollient, it's so thick and occlusive, and if you don't mind spending just a little more, you get a whole lot more for it. You just need the tiniest little amount, about half the amount of a traditional retinoid that you'd use, that's the kind of amount you need. Just massage it in for 90 seconds and I think you'll see some gamechanging results."

NEXT LEVEL MOISTURIZER - Plumper Skin Guaranteed
"The brand did put this through some studies that I read and they show really promising results, reinforcing that a couple of uses in people saw a noticeable improvement in barrier health and hydration. I'm always a bit dubious with brand specific trials, I don't know, maybe that's just me, I was a bit suspicious, so I did want to try it for myself and it definitely, definitely worked. Whilst a little too rich for me, if you're dry skinned or dry combination skin use this. It might be too thick for my skin type but it doesn't break you out, so if you're someone with very oily acne prone skin but also has an element of dryness, dry oily acne prone, it can all happen, and if that's you this could actually be a really great option because it'll hydrate the dry areas, it won't break out the oily areas, and it'll kind of balance everything out. A holy grail if you've got dry acne prone skin."

Flawless SKIN BARRIER MOISTURIZER (Move Over Cicplast Baume )
"By week one, everything was returned to normal. I had my skin confidence back, none of that tightness, that dryness that I was experiencing. So I definitely think this is going to be in my skincare routine every single winter. Will I use it in summer? Probably not, I don't think I need something as intense and advanced as this, but for winter this is going to be my savior. Best thing about it, and I can declare this to the world having used this for three weeks, it doesn't break you out. If like me you're super breakout prone, you'll know how difficult it is to find a rich moisturizer that doesn't clog the pores and leave you with blackheads and breakouts. This doesn't, and that's so difficult to find. [...] This amount is probably enough for the whole face, I tend to be quite sparing with this, you don't need a lot to get the benefit. [...] It's not super glossy and greasy looking like some heavy duty moisturizers, but it's also not deadpan matte, it's just a really nice skin finish, almost invisible, it's just your skin but hydrated. You can also see how it's taking down some of the redness, [...] instant calming, soothing, and that to me is so special because when your skin's going through it, you wake up and you just want to put something on your skin to make it feel better, and this is that product. When it comes to the ingredients, there's a lot going on, but I think the key ones are a beautiful blend of hydrators and some great humectants too, primarily they're using glycerin, which is my favorite humectant, it just works so much better than hyaluronic acid, and it's great to see more brands formulating with it. It's got squalane."
AMAZING ANTI AGING Results - Skincare To Use With Retinal / Tretinoin
"I think the very best of the tretinoin and retinal friendly moisturizers is this, the Dr Sam's Flawless Moisturizer Intense. This has so many calming, soothing and barrier supporting ingredients, this is a holy grail, and I would genuinely say the best pairing with any retinoid when it comes to a moisturizer. Now it does come with a slightly higher price point, which I'm happy to pay any day of the week because of the amazing formulation you're getting in here. And trust me, as someone that does get sensitivity with their retinoids, this totally eliminated it for me, which has been a game changer, but isn't going to be for everyone's budget."
SKINCARE LIVESTREAM - Come And Chat
"This is the Flawless Moisturizer Intense, which, if you look at all the bumf that they've put on, actually has some really interesting ingredients in here. Obviously got some of the usuals, but it's also got some ferments and things, so I'm going to give that a try. I'm actually quite excited to try that out, I think that could be quite good. Haven't even put it on my skin yet, so we'll try it out and I might feature it in a video if we like it, we'll see."
